(notes on AT&T wireless CEO Dan Hesse):

Bundling will continue to be a major focus. AT&T reports that its fixed wireless
Project Angel initiative has been going extremely well, with very good technical
and cost performance. AT&T plans to introduce “personal base stations” through
Project Angel where it does not have residential cable access already. When
wireless customers are in their homes, their mobile phones will convert into
“cordless” phones that communicate with the personal base station located in the
home, rather than other cell sites. This will provide the additional benefit of di-verting
traffic from AT&T's wireless networks to its fixed wireless and ca-ble/
wireline networks. Project Angel is in market trials now and will be rolling out
to additional markets in 2000. Most importantly, Project Angel becomes AT&T's
local wireline strategy, by passing the RBOCs in many areas.
