The Street looks to be aware of this and other negative information as reflected in the current downslide of Dell. Those in at 55 in Feb are really taking it on the chin.

rudedog, re: "now they seem
to be willing to pass that business (and its potential profit to a strong competitor
(IBM))", according to IR, Dell will be making a large profit margin on the IBM service (more than they would be making building IBM's Pc's).

:o)

>>>a tendency to make commitments in order to get a signed contract<<<

Rudedog... Thanks for the post. I for one want to be informed of all the news related to DELL Good and Bad... I don't know if the info. in your post applies just to large customers or not but I would like to relate to you and everyone what happened today when I called DELL to inquire about buying a new INSPIRON 7500 laptop...

The call was answered on the 3rd ring by a young man named Baker Johnson... I gave him the details of the system I am interested in buying and then told him that because I live overseas and would only be in the U.S. for two weeks that it was critical that the computer be delivered (in Portland, Oregon)no later than the 16th of October... He checked the various lead times and came back and told me that the best they could do was on or before Oct. 21st but could not guarantee the 16th. It would have been very easy for him to have said "Sure no problem..." and taken my order but it appears that at least for individual customers DELL doesn't make commitments that it isn't sure it can keep... I really appreciate that... I've decided to wait and buy my system when I go back to the States again in December, maybe the Pentium III mobile chip will be out by then?
