Rose,

Cantel is *ALL* Ericsson TDMA. Has been since day one - Canada wide. I doubt they will change to CDMA until they have no choice. They were also the first to implement digital in Canada, way before it was ready and have been paying the price ever since due to the bad reputation for that 'underwater' early TDMA digital sound. They buy everything Ericsson and are slow to respond to the marketplace. No need for panic. In Canada the Bell companies are the CDMA networks generally, not Cantel.

Rose, when I got my cell phone (west coast British Columbia) I knew nothing about Qualcomm or CDMA, but the word was: don't sign up with Cantel, the quality and reception are lousy; go with BC Tel (CDMA). BC Tel was (until last year I think) majority owned by GTE, but since their (BC Tel's) merger with Telus (Alberta), GTE is a now minority owner.

Rose,

<< any insight into why this one went TDMA >>

Not only historically TDMA but as you know in August AT&T and BT jointly acquired a 33 percent equity stake in Rogers Cantel Mobile Communications Inc. Cantel is very active in UWCC. The move announced today mirrors AT&T's recent commitment to move to EDGE and was not unexpected (at least not in my feeble mind).
