This is how I understand amazon.

Sales are done as normal. AMZN customers access the site, pick their products and are charged on their credit cards as they are today.

However, if the vendor is a third party (not AMZN, but using the AMZN site) Amazon will need to both collect money from them and pay them. Collect money for providing services, and pay them when money is collected. They will have a checking account number for each third party vendor and electronically transfer funds to and from the account.

-- The big question is who provides the funds transfer for them???
