Well, we now have all four cats, and internet service, too. Eleanor showed up as soon as Chris got home, she must have heard his car ~ they keep having to replace the muffler on the Saab, I don't know why, but it's under warranty, so it's always free, except for the inconvenience of taking it to the shop and coming back for it. Anyway, the motor is very loud, and makes a distinctive buzzing sound, and she was waiting for him at the door.
Last night while I was at Back to School night, Chris and the boys went back to the old house but weren't able to load everything because they caught Henry and his cat carrier took up half the back. So last night we had all four, rather agitated cats, they were all lurking in my room, cruising the bed, lashing their tails, it felt sort of like being surrounded by sharks.
I was pleased at the calibre of the courses Ben is taking, and the teachers. He is in the pre-IB program, but he is the only 9th grader in IB-C++, it's mostly 11th and 12th graders, a few 10th graders, and for the first time, a 9th grader, Ben. Who finds it easy so far, but they haven't started the hard part yet. And while he's not the only 9th grader in pre-IB Algebra II/trig, there aren't many. I also got information on Crew, land training starts on November 6, he's fortunate that I already have a good rowing machine/ergonometer, unfortunately it's the older model with the chain instead of the nylon strap, but it's comparable. And he's joined the Debate/Forensics club, too.
Nick is settling in at his school, too. They went to Camp Hemlock on Tuesday, that's one of those teamwork schools ~ it's in a wilderness type setting, run by George Mason University, and has physical challenges that involve teamwork and cooperation, like swinging over a mudpit, stuff like that. All the Fairfax County sixth graders get to do it, but it's voluntary. Ben's class did it as an overnighter when he was in 6th grade, and I was a chaperone for that, I even got to put on the harness and do the zip wire thing, don't know what you call it, rappelling? down a wire wearing a harness. Nick chickened out, apparently, but so did Ben. There's nothing wrong with knowing your limitations, when I was their age I wouldn't have done it either.
And finally RoadRunner, the cable internet, is installed. I haven't really tested it out yet, I wanted to say hi to you guys first. Now I will have to read the thread and see what is going on, hundreds of posts since I was last here. |
