Dear J-14: As someone has already told you, NIV is New International Version. I have a Bible program which has several translations of the Bible. When I post a quote from the Bible I do so from my program which automatically inserts the version: NIV (New International Version), KJV (King James Version), NKJV (New King James Version), NAS (New American Standard). I like the way the NIV reads so I have it as my default version.
