Interesting article, I just read the original paper in Nature Biotechnology. They say it takes about 12 hours to make one chip that has 76,800 features. (The number of features is limited by the digital mirror chip that they can get from TI.)

This is great technology, and I'm sure it will be useful to people who want to make 10-100 chips for their lab based on some unique genes. I don't think Affymetrix has to worry about anything though. The real money will be made on high volume chips, and using photomasks is going to be cheaper than any maskless technology when you start going to high volume production.
