AT&T's wireless strategy is looking more and more like its cable strategy. As Gilder has pointed out, T seems to have bought the cable companies to compete with the baby bells for voice traffic when all of the revenue growth is moving to data.

It looks like they are abandoning wireless data as well in their short-sighted commitment to TDMA. Well they are consistent if nothing else. When they finally move to CDMA, the move (and they) may not matter as much as they do right now.

On a related issue, if WCOM does buy Sprint, it will be a huge plus for QCOM. While Sprint's service may have some problems (as has been mentioned on this and the other Q thread), I expect it will improve and flourish under the guiding hand of Ebbers, et al. And the linking of Sprint PCS and WCOM's backbone should be an awesome combination.

And as CDMA services grow, so does QCOM's revenues, profits and stock price. All IMHO.

Jim Willie....lurking from Gorillas & Kings thread...

I sense a long drawn out slow death for ATT in wireless and longdistance... gonna be fun to watch... count on them to boost QCOM in a big way in y2001, moving the stock from 1150 to 1600 per share... or else, whoever buys crippled ATT by then

Could I ask you kindly to elaborate on how you determined the stock price will increase 6-8X in the next 18 months or so? Not criticizing, just interested in how you arrived at this. I remember that the Everen analyst predicted 50% growth YOY.

BTW, I think your posts are refreshingly direct, tho' occasionally a bit coarse; IOW, I enjoy them.
