to paraphrase and summarize: As long as you have a credit card, inflation doesn't matter.

When does DELL pre-announce earnings? I've been watching for a good entry point to buy DELL puts, e.g. DLQMH, but it just keeps creeping away from me. My instincts say MU & DELL are about to take it on the chin. Anyone have any thoughts on how low these 2 may go?

SB:

We may not agree on valuations and timing with particular stocks (on Dell I expect good earnings thru the year with upgrades for y2k) but on the post you referenced.

demand has nothing to do with price....very rarely is consumption lessened by price....unless the price is very high

add $50 to the cost of a computer...about $2 a month on a corporate lease...and for the average consumer, as long as he has his credit card, doesn't matter...

I am a firm believer in supply and demand and price sensitivity. I don't own dell and am just commenting. We agree this guy is clueless.

Skeets, I am very happy to be able to tell all of the world's great economists (o.k., a pretty shabby group to begin with) that they can drop the demand curve from their supply demand charts because Edamo said so. Also, I am sure that the folks who sell pet rocks will be happy to hear that demand doesn't matter and they are not bankrupt. And that the computer companies are not lowering prices to keep demand from falling off a cliff. They are just doing it because they are nice guys.

It is always nice to hear economic theories from The University of Alpha Centauri. <g>

Mr. Bug,
Unfortunately it is sad rather than funny. That guy is more than clueless; he is a sicko who had to be removed from this thread. I'd recommend using the delete key on his messages rather than encouraging the abuse that we have seen before.
