Darrell -
Your premise is a reasonable one and also one that I'm sure IBM wants DELL to believe. It may be true. But IBM has over the years created few win-win partnerships - mostly IBM wins. I suspect that the reason DELL has not moved more quickly with IBM is that they need more than they are getting in the way of safeguards.

I don't think IBM is afraid of CPQ at the moment, but they do think ahead, and they might be positioning to develop a position against a re-invigorated CPQ in mid-2000.

DELL still needs to think beyond what is effective against CPQ and be sure they have what is good for DELL.
