Ed:
Some thoughts on Dell stock price
We have paid with nine months of pain and suffering for the 12 short days of glory in January when Dell went from $41 to $54.
Looking forward, do we want to go through that same situation again by having Dell immediately go to $60 or $70?
I don't expect Dell to hit 70 until early 2000.
If Dell hit $53 tomorrow, it might leave nothing left but
bounce, bounce, bounce for over 5 weeks until earnings and then maybe 6 more weeks after that.
We know its going to bounce, since it is very typical of
Dell to go up for 2 to 5 days, then down for 2 to 3 days.
Since I am not planning to bail out of Dell, I would prefer
a few days of glory each month, recognizing the price to be paid
is maybe 25 days of what we have just gone thru.
So 43 is a bit low, could be reasonably happy with 45 to 50,
anything much over 50 and we are headed for some pain until
the Nov earnings run-up.
Summary: Just a few comments on pain resulting from fast run-ups. Ask any Sears or AVI holder about real pain.
Regards
Sig
