Hi Mark,

Intel is proactively notifying all of its customers that it has not completed its validation of the Intel(R) 820 Chipset and that the Intel 820 Chipset is not a released product at this time.

Intel has a rigorous process for validating our products and working with our customers during the course of their validations. This process takes many weeks to months to complete. Most times we complete this process without requiring additional time to address issues. In the case of the 820 chipset, we identified these issues very late in our normal validation process. We are still in the process of determining the cause of the memory errors.

The impact on existing motherboards will vary from OEM to OEM. We identified this as a potential issue before high volume shipments of the Intel 820 Chipset had begun, so we believe the impact of any changes that the solutions dictate (such as a two RIMM socket design instead of a three RIMM socket design) will be minimal.

Intel?s desktop memory roadmap remains focused on the addition of Direct RDRAM, and Intel believes RDRAM is the memory solution that will provide the best performance with today?s highest-performance microprocessors. Intel continues to work with Direct RDRAM suppliers and its customers to help make the addition of Direct RDRAM as smooth as possible.

Yeah jd, I was over there and read the same post plus others, always looking for info. Of course that site, deja, is a conglomerate of numerous threads. My question is why would anyone buy the board knowing there are problems yet to be resolved? If they don't know then shame, shame.

Hi Jdassoc; Re the story from the guy who's 820 is flaky with two RIMMs.

Pretty clear that the machine is having an overheating problem. He needs to run it in a colder environment. I would suggest removing the "skins" and trying again. If he still has problems, he might try putting the machine in a much cooler environment. I would suggest outside, especially as this summer turns into winter. He could set it up in the shade, over near the garbage cans.

Rumor is that Intel is going to delay the release until January, and then only ship machines to the northern half of the United States...
