Yes agree with you that Ashanti is 'betting' on higher POG- but there many be another reason:

My interest in following Ashanti is becauce they and Barrick and
Anglo Gold are partners with PANGEA (pgd-t) in tanzania and rumours have it as a whopper of a (low cost )find in in the making- results are expected 'any day' and could make Pangea as good a buy out candidate as Sutton was by Barrick in Tanzania.

Noticed what Oliphant said on CNBC about TANZANIA? --(thread post)

My opinion is that hedgers like Barrick and Ashanti 'have to buy' cheap new low cost 'finds' like the one in the making by Pangea in Tanzania. With POG up and their share price up they can now 'pay less' for these new finds with higher priced (Barrick ?) shares.

Just my opinion
