Thus, Ballmer was obviously trying to talk the stock down so they could buy it cheaper to fund employee options.

Even if his logic is "right", then if softie cannot buy it back, the dilution factor will hit the shareholders. He manages a big fund and must have a lot of softie shares.

Ice, that's the interpretation WS WANTS to be the truth, because if Ballmer merely spoke his mind, the implication would be that prices are indeed too high, and we can't have that!
