Dear JDN, You are correct about the importance of culture. One of my colleagues married one of his Thai classmates when they were in grad school. That was a good 35 years ago [they are both older than I]. His wife would not drive when they married and STILL refuses to drive. About 20 years ago he demanded that she learn to drive just in case there was an emergency and she had to drive someone to a hospital. She got the license but has not been behind the wheel since then. Lynn P.S. She sits in the front seat with her husband.
