I agree that passion shouldn't enter into business decisions, and that one shouldn't fall in love with (or hate) a stock. However, the flip side, equally true in my book, is that one should believe in one's investments and not be fickle towards them.

Find good long term investments and stick with them. Switch when they give you reason to, but not before.

JMHO.

Bill, you are quite right, but it is also important to be informed about the facts and opinions surrounding an investment. I am of the opinion that intelligent discourse, with an occasional repartee, is conducive in keeping us apprised in this ever changing Technotronic Era. Opportunities are fleeting and unless an investor is well informed, his/her decisions will be flawed with too much hesitation. Remember, the God of Opportunity is not forgiving. Any well informed person will have no problem discerning the facts which are heavily biased toward 3Com being an incredible bargain.

Passion, is a great characteristic if it is harnessed for the proper reasons. A passion to research and find undervalued companies has nothing to do with loving a company. I for one, have no love for 3Com, but I have a passion for investing in undervalued companies.

Companies and individuals who have prescience are the ones that will do well. Unfortunately, all visions do not come to their fruition forthwith and for this reason you see a lot of Eric bashing. Given time, I am certain that the Higher court of History, will be much more benign than many have been on Wall Street. I am a believer in his visions of where he would like to take the company. I also think if he is allowed to continue as CEO he will bring many of his ideas to fruition.

My investments in 3Com began in March of 1999, since then I have been extremely vigilant. In the six months that have pasted, I have observed nothing disappointing and actually have been impressed with the direction the company has veered. For this reason I increased my holdings.

Short of a major calamity in the world economic order, I have no doubt that 3Com will make its glide path to $65 in less than a year.

Bill,

I agree 100% and fwiw, I am long COMS...I hate the company and the management but the stock has based here well and has little risk. COMS will never be a tier one player and it will likely struggle to simply make earnings this quarter. Still, at these levels it's tough to be bearish. Regarding the true bulls here...they see a rising star and it is to that that I find exception. As I said (and I think you'll agree) this is a good investment due to trading levels but I wouldn't get wrapped up in this company's strategies given their inability to execute in the past.

I know...seems like orthoginal thinking...but I've divested the market for equities from the company itself...at least to a certain degree.
