Well this is very true. I think the issue with me is how, though they had principle clearly on their side, the Republican senators themselves were not in solidarity, this because of fear. Trent Lott so desperately wanted to coast through those hearings so that he could say "well great, the system worked." And those folk never hammered the issue as did the Democrats.

But your point is certainly correct. The Dems had the numbers.

A good point BUT, the Repub "leadership's" actions in the Senate trial were despicable and cowardly. JLA
