My favorite (stupid) rumor is that MDell is negotiating a deal to sell Dell to IBM, and that MD would love to "cap off" his career by taking over the helm at IBM (after Lou)..

After building the most expensive house ever in Austin, and fighting the city on his property tax bill (over the last few years)....based on that fact ALONE....he wouldn't possibly burden himself with a move anytime soon <G> (I'm buying a house; I can relate <G>)

Also, once you're the 4th richest man in the world, and run one of the most successful and fastest-growing technology companies in history (with a bright future), AND the company has YOUR NAME on it....why, oh why, would you want to go to work for anyone, and for a company that doesn't have your name on it??

Sure (slightly superficial) reasons..but enough to rub this rumor out in its tracks...

PS- Oh, I forgot, also.......why merge when you can (likely) get all you want (without merging)...High tech mergers are like root-canals without the novacane...
