No, you missed my point. The normal Rambus method requires continuity modules to carry the traces over unused slots in order to get the traces to the termination resistors at the far end (beyond the 3rd slot).

But the fix that Petz suggested to the problem of not be able to tolerate a 3rd slot even if it is unused is to fill it with a discontinuity modules that has only the resistors on it. So this module electrically removes the 3rd slot without requiring rework of the board.

However, due to articles that have hit the web tonight I suspect that the problems may be more severe than could be fixed by removing a slot.
