Thanks, truedog!

I am old enough to be an early feminist: When I married, I did not change my surname because I had a professional franchise. This was in 1976 and the pressure and crap I got was beyond belief--although not from my husband. (Which may explain Lizzie's sensitivity on the use of the word "lady"--she may have gotten some of the pressure I did!)

My husband would simply introduce me--as I did with him--as this is my wife or my husband--name with a different surname. If there was ever a problem professionally, I never saw it.

But in my husband's family, the pressure was intense. (Not in mine, thank the Lord!)
