13:22 ET Optical Stocks : After a strong performance during the Fiber Optic conference earlier this week, the group succumbs today: JDSU -1 15/16, SDLI -4 7/8, ETEK -4 13/16. GLW bucking the trend: +2.

12:36 ET Applied Materials (AMAT) 77 -2 3/4: Stock being dragged down along with the rest of the semis, but SG Cowen reiterates its "strong buy" and expects company to beat Q4 EPS consensus of $0.63 by at least 7 cents and will also beat revenue estimates of $1.4-1.5 bln.

12:17 ET Semiconductor Stocks : --Update-- Some traders placing the blame for the semis' troubles today on a Japanese nuclear accident; though thus far, the accident has only prompted warning for those within a 6 mile radius of the plant. The plant is 70 miles Northeast of Tokyo.

Thean, caught just a piece of a report on CNBC this AM that said one of the brokerage houses had replaced IBM with MERQ on its 10 best list. Just got back, so I apologize if this was already posted.
