I'm talking about actors turned politicians.

John Davis Lodge was a Hollywood leading man to Dietrich and others, played Temple's father on one occasion. He became a member of Congress from Connecticut and then Governor. Perhaps when you lived in CT.

Interstate 95 thru Connecticut is named after him, the John Davis Lodge Turnpike (or thruway). After his governorship he served as Ambassador to two countries for Eisenhower, then again Ambassador under Nixon and then lastly as Ambassador to Switzerland under Reagan.

I gave a dinner for Governor Lodge in 1980 when he chaired the Reagan primary campaign and he and Francesca regaled me with stories of Hollywood and Reagan.

I only mentioned this because some people think Reagan was the US's first actor turned governor. Surprisingly, his screen credits continued thru the 1960's!
