I agree with you, Ron, that Sandisk has been way too slow in starting an aggressive advertising and public relations campaign. (PR is what I do for a living. Actually sent a proposal to them, but they wanted someone local.)

Sandisk's marketing errors started with naming the product. No one understands what flash memory means. When you have a product name that is counter-intuitive it becomes even more important to market aggressively. (Flash sounds like something that is here and gone quickly, not something that lasts indefinitely.)

SNDK has done a pretty good job in arranging retail presence, but the Sandisk name is conspicuous by its absence in most articles about electronic cameras and the other electronic goodies we all hope will use Sandisk cards.
