I know ... America West has more comfortable seats and gives "assigned" seats, which I prefer. But Southwest has more flights and better pricing (usually) ... if you book a flight on another airline at the discounted advance purchase and cancel, you lose it - no refund, nothing. But on Southwest, if you cancel, you can get the flight credited for another flight within 12 months. No refund, but you don't lose the money if you are traveling within the year. So - since we have to book from LA so far in advance as most weekend flights are booked and sold out months in advance, we prefer to book on SW where we don't lose if we have to cancel. And no matter how much everyone complains about SW, the flights are always booked. No empty seats.
