I can read the events of the DOCSIS 1.2 delay as being due to
CableLabs and its members not having made up their minds on the
advanced modulation choice(s). However, there will be some
incremental updates to the TDMA before 1.2 comes out. Com21
could take advantage of those updates as they appear in the
chipsets and subsequent certifications - as well as other
cable modem suppliers.

With the pressure off rushing 1.2 (at the moment) CableLabs
and the vendors are better positioned to focus on DOCSIS 1.1
without HiPHY distractions confusing things.

This should strengthen the focus on PacketCable
voice services. Since Com21 is looked as a major packet voice
player, this could be beneficial. Otherwise, since Com21 is
not a HiPHY vendor, but a customer, the IEEE 802.14a issue
should have nil impact.

Also, if this ripples through to effect IEEE 802.14 acceptance,
then the world will stay focused on the DOCSIS and DAVIC/DVB
standards. Com21 has efforts in both standards areas now
(see today's news for DAVIC/DVB).
