Paul, <Reminds me of a male ant ...>

That's more than what I needed to know, thanks. ;-/

Paul - I'm a pretty careful reader of the Computer adds in the Long Island, NY area and I haven't seen an add for an Anthrax yet. Is it possible that, other than the DIY guys and the deranged gamer guys, there is no serious demand for it? Just a thought.

To be fair, there's been no (at least as far as I can see) AMD add campaign (though Apple has some fairly pointed and funny TV adds) so it's hard for there to be a groundswell of interest when, to the general public, it's invisible. Also, absent Micron, Dell, Compaq (yet), Gateway, etc, it's going to be a bear getting decent volume numbers going. It's very difficult to have a stealth launch success in the computer world (though AMD has a very different definition of success). The general public doesn't follow this stuff that closely.

I am concerned over the muffed launch of the Camino and the Xeon-cache issues. I am a great believer in corporate cultures being great predictors of future results. I am therefore confident that Intel can resolve the bobbles quickly and effectively. Far better not to have the problems, but they have the talent, resources and managerial judgement to jump on the problems and stomp them out. Conversely, my guess is that there is still something "funny" about the Athlon launch that is not right - whether it is yield or board stability or bin splits or MOBO availability. Just a hunch, but it doesn't smell right.
Why aren't all the staffs (and their buddies) of purported recipients of 700 MHz Anthrax's running out and buying oodles of AMD stock, driving the price way up? Guess we'll get a reading in a week.

Regards,
Burt

Paul,

Re: "Reminds me of a male ant climbing up the hind end of a female elephant - with rape on its mind."

The ant has "high hopes, apple pie in the sky hopes".
Remember what happened to the rubber tree plant.
