India has tackled the biggest issue of all: removing hunger through ample food production; it is now self-sufficient...

Oh, really? Then how come hundreds of millions go without two, or in many cases maybe even one, square meal a day?

Without comment... from the "Letters" section of a newspaper in India :

Growth and progress

Sir, Power cuts are back, even before the monsoon has exhausted itself. It is a pathetic commentary on our development, to see that half a century after independence we have not been able to generate our basic requirements of power.

We have cast our votes to bring in a new government, both in the state as well as at the Centre. One thing is for sure - whoever comes to power, we will still be short of power! The sad part of this story is that there are many private orginsations willing to set up power generation units, but we spend years in deciding whether to give them licences or not, and then reversing the decisions.
