NorthPoint Communications Launches Business DSL Center On Excite@Home's Work.com

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- NorthPoint Communications (NASDAQ:NPNT) is the preferred provider of digital subscriber line (DSL) service for Work.com (www.work.com), a new online business service introduced today by Excite@Home. Work.com features information and services designed to meet the growing needs of business professionals and their companies, including a content area designed by NorthPoint, called the "Business DSL Center." The Business DSL Center is located at excite.com.
Developed by a team of experts at NorthPoint, the Business DSL Center provides detailed information about DSL technology, a next-generation, affordable Internet connectivity solution that allows businesses to transmit and receive data at speeds up to 1.5 Mbps over regular phone lines. In addition to providing answers to the most commonly asked questions about DSL and helping businesses learn about the benefits of DSL-based broadband connectivity, the Business DSL Center includes a pre-qualification tool enabling businesses to find out instantly if DSL is available at their location.

"The Business DSL Center on Work.com is designed to equip small business -- many of which are looking to graduate from dial-up to broadband -- with the information they need to make better use of the Internet as a competitive tool," said Liz Fetter, NorthPoint's president and chief operating officer. "As the company that pioneered a DSL service specifically designed for the needs of businesses, NorthPoint looks forward to fueling increased awareness and adoption of DSL as a dedicated, high-speed and affordable alternative to other broadband services."

According to industry analysts, adoption of DSL by businesses is growing at an annual rate of 155 percent. Unlike traditional dial-up modem connections that offer speeds of 56 Kbps at best, DSL provides small and midsize businesses with a range of speeds up to 1.5 Mbps at more affordable prices than a T1 connection. As a high-speed, secure, "always on" connection, DSL enables a host of vital business applications, including instantaneous email downloads, large file transfers, video-conferencing, Web hosting and virtual private networking.

Today's announcement builds on an existing strategic relationship between NorthPoint and the @Work division of Excite@Home. @Work is Excite@Home's business-to-business division and the premier provider of e-Business bandwidth,
information and web services. Last year, @Work selected NorthPoint as its preferred provider of DSL-based high-speed Internet access. Earlier this year, @Work and NorthPoint formed an expanded agreement to develop new joint marketing initiatives, including the "Business DSL Center," targeting the small and midsize business market.

Eric,

'Big Bird' appears to be on the move.

The first steps of a huge Bull frog now turned prince, after being kissed by the princess, are quickly falling into history.

Stronger, more powerful strides are covering ground in measured haste. And many appear to be hearing the impact of these steps on the future.

I doubt athm will ever fit in steerage again.

<I see this as ugly stuff. This division in the Board of Directors has got to be hurting focus and morale>

My Dad use to say that it is good to run a little scared, it helps you to do you best by not allowing complacency to creep in. I am sure it makes for disharmony and uncomfortable sleep @night for the key players at E@home, but its part of business too. It sure does not seem to be hurting roll out and the ability of @home to sign deals and get new services online. What news releases lately! I just wish I had the doe to buy one of those 50K blocks noted the other day! I'd buy you another Macaw when we easily double from here. Deal or no with AOL, recognition and momentum are gathering more and more eyeballs to the stock. It has the substance which will one day soon empower it to fly on its own merit. imho.

One fact, @home is no turkey.
