They said the same about gold. I've said that about gold, too.

Yet I need to fly, but I only need gold in miniscule quantities.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not supposing airlines are going to get a ramp like gold just got.

Just saying that airline stocks aren't going to go away, no matter how bad the economics of running an airline is.

On a good year, airlines can make a lot of money, similar to an oil co.

I don't think its a fair comparison, comparing airlines to utilities, because airlines are "deregulated", whereas utilities are heavily so. The avg citizen doesn't HAVE to fly, but they HAVE to have electricity and running water. Therefore the prices of electricity and water are very closely monitored by regulatory bodies.

Anyway like I mentioned, its silly to try to argue the merits of airline stocks, because like you said, they're bad investments and nobody wants 'em. So I'll stop right here. -GG-
