PB,

Re:"Compaq has yet to release its promised Athlon computers. Gateway, another former AMD partner, has stated it will move back to
the Intel camp.

Part of the problem has been an inadequate supply of internal components that work with the chip, according to Ashok Kumar, an
analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray.

"It's been more aggravated by the situation in Taiwan," he said. "The motherboard supplies are being allocated to the Intel solution." "

First of all Compaq Athlons are readily available - go to website and order.

Second Kumar is trotted out regularly to pour cold water on AMD. He definately has a slant that is very AMD.

Thirdly - i can foresee MB issues - as I am hearing of shortages and price rises. However the AThlon MBs are VERY profitable. If there is an allocation issue I can see socket7 MBs being alllocated. And who cares of that happens.

regards,

Kash

Re: Compaq has yet to release its promised Athlon computers..

That's not what they told me when I called for a quote! And those words don't appear in the article referenced. The IBM systems have been in Best Buy for about two weeks now. I've personally seen boxes sitting on the shelf.

I've called a VAR I use for white box systems and he said I could have my choice of FIC or MSI boards, both were readily available - that was two weeks ago.

They're here, available, and in volume - one and a half months after the August 4 intro it is true, but they are here now.
