Dafoe is from what I gather free to go where his talents take him. I don't think he's obligated to any team at the moment.
As far as arbitration goes, I'm not even sure what the rules are but I would think players would have the option to ask for an arbitrator anytime negotiations aren't going well. Could be well before any contract expiry date.

I didn't realize DK was a negative presence. Could be one of the reasons Sinden could care less although I find that a pretty weak argument on Harry's part for letting a player with his talent slip away. Oh well, we'll soon find out how much they miss him.
