Ausdauer, re: "digital, portable medical records". If I were heading up Blue Cross/Shield, I would require a PIC device for every member. The first time you were hospitalized or ran up more than $500 in medical bills, you would get one.

An imbedded photo ID would prevent fraudulent use of the card (which alone might pay for the thing). Blue Cross pays doctors ~$50 extra whenever you visit a doctor for the first time (to cover his costs of taking down your personal info and setting up a file.) That's several $50s per member during his lifetime!

Not to mention automating drug interactions, patients who forget their allergies, instant check-in at the emergency room, and more.

I LOVE the PIC concept. My hope is that SNDK either has a design patent or some other way to protect it. Once the U.S. military standardizes on it it could become a world-wide defacto standard for NATO. And the first choice for the Blues, HMOs plus, if it ever comes to pass, a "national health insurance" program.

Since this doesn't qualify as a "bear" post, I guess SNDK has further to fall :-(
