Dan Niles downgrades DELL:

"We believe that the recent supply issues caused by the Taiwan earthquake and Camino delay will result in revenue growth being less than expected. As a result, we are lowering revenue growth estimate from 12% to 9% q/q for Q3 and from 11% to 9% for Q4.

"We also believe margins are under tremendous pressure given the price premiums being paid. 64 Megs of DRAM alone cost about $40 more today versus three months ago, of you can get them.... We are now modeling a 100 bps gross margin decline over the next two quarters versus 50bps.

"We are lowering our EPS estimate from $0.77 to $0.74 for CY99 but maintaining our CY00 revenue estimate and EPS estimate of $1.04. We believe more details will be available at the Dell analyst meeting on October 7. We hope that is the extent of the damage."

I believe the Oppenheimer price target on NITE is 98. Should be a good runner in the intermediate term.

On NITE I heard their price target is $98. Wouldyou know in what time frame? They reley heavely on market trading volume and I heard the volume surge at the end of Sept. may result in the beating qtrly expectattions again plus the Merrill deal taking effect this month alone add .06 to earnings per share. I also understand that handling trades for Ameritrade begins this month as well. I strongly agree with the strong buy rating and think that volume will surge toward year end further still and the first qtr. of 2000 will be very strong. Could you add anything else to my research?

I am aware of the insider selling of the recent past but it seems that that was a matter of selling of lock-up shares and the selling has subsided. I don't give credance to the buyout rumor that Merrill is looking to buy NITE. That rumor has been around for a long time. The only thing that makes you wonder about it is that when Merrill was asked they said 'no comment' and I have seen them come out and say 'there are no talks going on'.

An Estimate I have is that on a take-out $100. a share is a fair price. Your thoughts?
