Qdog. Played w/ oil & oil service last year and got burned big time. Look at this OSX chart. If some Arab farts, it can hit your investment.

Sure UTI is up 164% from mid Jan and BJS 106%, but CXIPY is down 10% from mid July 1998. And most of the rest are down from July 98 too. Catching oil at the very bottom in mid Jan 1999 did give superior timers a good ride this year.
I guess something could be said for gas investmends because they are not so much at the mercy of things totallly out of your control.
Have you read "The Coming Oil Crisis" by Colin J. Campbell?
Good case for oil as an investment for the next 5 years.

1. Cycylicals...you have to be a good market timer to make money. Not likely.
2. JohnG's comment about an Arab farting...exactly. I want my companies to control their destiny...not random methane.
3. Don't worry about future doom and gloom. We don't know, we can't predict it, we...oh never mind.
