I have heard nothing.

But it appears that Novell has someone working in Slitz's capacity on an interim basis.

No top executive in a technology company is indispensable. We don't need any more symbolic management at Novell. (The analogy in sports is where you go out and hire a megabucks pitcher or player to improve your public image. We don't need this.) In fact Schmidt would never have been CEO of Novell if we accepted the theory that only people we already know about should be elevated to top management.

This is the second phase of Novell's restructuring. Schmidt is going to have to be much more creative with his management selections to run an internet race. Now he will face that challenge head on. He will have to select talented people who if given a chance can execute. Figureheads are not needed.

Stone will take his talents to a company that supports Novell's objectives. He will be closer to the troops. If he hits upon the hot business to business ecommerce application using Novell's directory technology then who benefits? We do.

There are plenty of smart talented people in this world. Schmidt has plenty of contacts and frankly he doesn't need the type of support he needed when SLitz and Stone came on board. We don't need a symbolic management team we need a real management team. Frankly I like what Mike Sheridan did with Zen. Find five more managers like that and you have some results.
