Most executives and CIO's/CEO's watch CNN/CNBC just like you and I, probably moreso. NT/LU/CSCO already have been advertising and Cabletron has for quite a while. Also, it might speed things up so to speak as they seem to be turning a nice leaf. JMHO
Exposure is always good!

I think it's for pure name recognition. It's like DuPont advertising all their achievements during the morning news.

<<but to who? i am not going to go out and buy any networking solutions... who is the target market for these commercials?... and why do they think they would find them on cnn? or are they just trying to make cs a household name for some reason? >>

Well, I don't have access to CS' marketing plans, but obviously they are not targeting the individual. I just saw another commercial this AM, on CNBC this time. They mentioned three fairly large companies that use them, one was MGM Grand, I think another was GEC, I wasn' paying close attention. Looks like they think that management of fairly large companies watch CNN and CNBC. Hopefully they have done their research.
