Postal Savings Suffer Net Decline In Apirl-Sept
Saturday, October 2, 1999

TOKYO (Nikkei)--The nation's postal savings showed a net decline of 145.8 billion yen for the April-September period, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications announced Friday.

The slide marks the second net drop for the period since World War II. The previous decline occurred in 1990, when a large number of teigaku, or postal time deposits with biannual compound rates, reached maturity.

Low interest rates and slow growth in individual income are said to be behind the current drop. The ministry expects the trend to continue for some time.

Teigaku deposits showed a decline of 1.02 trillion yen, and time deposits fell by 548.1 billion yen.

This is interesting ..

Did anyone else have their internet connection suddenly get very slow just when that sudden spike down was about to start?
