Where is Gemstar in the Technology adoption life cycle? In the bowling alley or inside the tornado? If not inside the tornado, then would it not be pre-gorilla? Also, a gorilla should be in hypergrowth phase; are Gemstar's earnings doubling or in hypergrowth now?

Lindy,
I think that the adoption of Gemstar's product by the who's who of international broadcasters and consumer electronics manufacturers signifies that the product has crossed the chasm. Those two categories are bowling pins in the alley. The bowling pin that has not yet been knocked down is the group of cable adopters. When that happens, I'm inclined to think that the tornado will begin.

Uncle Frank,

My oh my how the debate rages about my calls. :)

Merlin, who called the shot on Q, has made the same call on gmst,

Actually, the "call" I think you're referring to is my thinking (in agreement with Stew) that a major settlement announcement in favor of Gemstar will be equal in importance to the Ericsson settlement for Qualcomm. A settlement announcement is highly rumored which explains in my mind the current run-up in Gemstar's stock. But there has been no announcement.

You are absolutely correct that I "called" Gemstar's place in the bowling alley. I think the evidence is difficult to refute.

If you're thinking of something else I wrote, run it by me and I'll do my best to continue confusing everyone. :)

and those of us who know him appreciate how coldly analytical he is in such proclamations.

Thank you for the highest of gorilla-gaming compliments. Probably not deserved but certainly appreciated!
