If I understand the figures correctly here's what happened.

Pre Tax Income: 11,891
Taxes: 4,106
Tax Benefit related to options: 3,107

That means that MSFT actually paid about about 1 billion in taxes on close to 12 billion in income. The employees actually paid 3 billion in taxes upon the exercise of the options.

Good country America...if you're Bill Gates. Why does this smell like a scheme of some sort?
