Russian troops entered the republic today for the first time
since the end of the bloody 1994-1996 war between Russia and
Chechnya as Russia continued to bomb targets in Chechnya, Russia's
NTV television reported. Yevgeny Primakov, a former prime minister
and a leader of one of the main opposition parties, said Russia
shouldn't enter into anther ground war.
``If it is a ground operation, a wide-ranging operation with
many federal army units, and resistance from fighters -- which
there will be -- we will have many casualties among our soldiers
and civilians,' Primakov said. ``I think this shouldn't be
considered. I am a strong opponent of a wide-ranging operation.'

Check-out this thinly veiled threat..

"We understand that NATO is a reality on the European stage and we think Russia and NATO must do everything to create the atmosphere for cooperation, cooperation in the interests of them both and in the interests of European security," he said.

"I think that when such conditions are created, there will be a possibility of resuming relations."
