Here's the full Intel press release:

"Intel Launches Online Services Unit"

-

Here's a piece about a data center they are building:

"Intel To Build $130Mil East Coast Web-Hosting Center"

newsalert.com

-

and here's some analyst reaction:

"Analysts Skeptical Of Intel's Hosting Play"

stocks.planetdirect.com\274u2988.htm

Extract: "I think that Intel is completely misguided in its move to Web
hosting," said Howard Anderson, an analyst at Forrester Research,
Cambridge, Mass. "Intel does not have the customer relationships. Intel
does not have experience in this business. I think their desire is that
they would like to provide the servers in this market, but people like
Exodus and others in this market, I think, are going to hand them their
rear end."

Also a mention by Steve Harmon in his Netstocks Q&A

siliconinvestor.com

Extract:

"Steve... I've been reading an abundance of articles regarding the competition between Exodus and Intel. Into this melee comes Qwest. Would you comment on these companies and, if possible, touch on where Verio might fit into this group?

=>reply: Intel is late to the data-center game, just as it was late to the broadband chip game (Broadcom leads there). I don't see Intel making big inroads for a few years, and I believe there's room for three or four large players here. Intel must prove it can be a data-center provider; Exodus and Digital Island have already proven it."

"To win, Intel will have to put some more value on the table, make the agreements more comprehensive and throw some weight behind the effort.~"

From me: In terms of competition, I think the new age telecos (GBLX, QWST) are actually going to be more important than Intel, because of their ownership of the bandwidth (for example, EXDS is a GBLX customer). GBLX is going to be expanding Frontier's GlobalCenter hosting operation to the international cities their Crossings' will be serving (see recent posts on the GBLX board for more).

I think there's lots of room at the Inn in this market, as more and more consumer and business services turn to the Web. The way I deal with the competition is to buy 'em all - I have GBLX, QWST, EXDS and some others too..but EXDS is the only one of these that is currently not bleeding red in my 'folio

Go Ellen!! (Got any cool Exodus polo shirts? :) )

I'll be buying more on any big dip this month!
