Craig,

Specs for the Coolpix 800 reportedly closer to the 950 than the 700. I believe all 3 have the same CCD.

I took sample pics over a year ago with a Coolpix 900 in a store that were mind boggling. I trust that Nikon got it right. I would even feel comfortable ordering without a test drive.

Craig,

Ausdauer, I thought the Coolpix 800 looks great with a terrific design and great specs too. But the sample images look more like the 700 than the 950. From what I can tell from examining sample .JPGs, the 950 is the best among the entire sub-$2K market at recording subtle transitions and shadow detail. By comparison, the 800 looks "flat" or "muddy".

Craig, I am going to go to my local photography boutique with a blank CF card in hand to test out the Nikon CoolPix 800 myself before buying. My biggest dissapointment would be the lack of aperature of time priority settings, in which case I will not buy.

I am also psyched up about the Olympus C2500 because of the CF slot.

I think we should be rejoicing about the Olympus defection!!!

Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!
