Tech talk time.. The last time I paid attention to HD speeds were a few years ago and I had a bunch of those 3.5 gig when they just came out, cost like 600 or something I think.. I was amazed at the 2meg/sec xfer speed and had 4 of em running in a raid fashion under NT for speed. Although not as fast as runnign 4 SCSI drives it was FAST.. Got like 4-5 meg/sec xfer rates.. So then I got those maxtor 17gig maxtor ide's and those had like 10 meg/sec and I went hmm good.. But didnt pay any more attention to it.. Recently I took one of the 17gig maxtors and exchanged it for a 7200 rpm 27 gig one and it showed like 22meg/sec which I was like hmm yea gettign there and maybe I should get a new mb that does ultra ata 66 to get another 1 or 2 megs extra.. Just got a 9gig quantum altas4 drive and just started reading the specs.. 160meg/sec BUS xfer rate and 30meg/sec data xfer rate.. Well I can only get it to go upto 40 mhz since I only have a ultra wide scsi interface instead of an untra2 wide or ultra3 wide (add like 200 bucks to each number after the ultra, they must have learned the racket from the mm's) paid lord knows how much for (I know the damn cable cost me like 80 bucks) if I want to see the faster speed.. NOW WHY THE FAWK DOES WINDOWS 98 TAKE 5 mins to load when the HD can pump data at 20 MEGS/sec?
