Hey DiViT. You know that old theory we had about recording digital signals: If you receive a digital signal, just record it first, then send it to the decoder. You don't need an encoder/codec to do this.

A Lurker just E-Mailed me and said that if you want VCR like functions, you need a codec to re-encode(transrate) the signal for the hard drive.

The lurker should know. That means codecs where we didn't think one was needed.

Lehman didn't state that Pioneer already has a settop win with Time-Warner. Pioneer's next gen box uses C-Cube chips.

C-Cube's US cable wins start adding up:

Pioneer boxes to TWX.

Philips boxes the Media One.

Maybe Sony to Cablevision.

Maybe an AT&T set top win.

Pace keeps trying.
