OT> Perhaps in retrospect, TMI was not as bad as first thought. The question I have is this. . .There were 159,684 residents studied. . .and the illnesses, etc. were found to be within normal limits. . .but place a marker on the map showing the location and proximity to TMI of those that WERE taken ill. . . and I would suspect the pattern would not be random, but would lean closer to the TMI plant.

And if that is true, then the study would need to be done again, but this time NOT with the 159,684 residents that lived as far as 10 miles away, but with the hundreds that lived within two or three miles of the plant. That is where we would see the REAL results of emissions, IMO.

I have seen the countless governmental reports saying, NO ILL EFFECTS from TMI. But again, the higher number of subjects measured, the lower the overall measured effect will show.

And I am not saying that TMI was anything like Chernobyl. I know better. Chernobyl was a disaster of the highest proportion. For those that aren't aware, thumb through the effects left in the wake of this disgusting disaster: adiccp.org While you are there, you may want to buy a book or a CD or help in whatever way you feel led.

Warning: This site will break your heart.

OT TWEST ..... I was in the power related field at the time and watched a lot of things play out... TMI proved to be bi-modal, in that it showed that accidents in nuclear plant can happen, BUT, from where I was sitting at the time, it showed how well the overall design worked since, as you noted, almost all of the radiation was contained. The external environment was virtually unaffected, but not reported as such.

I believe that NO nuclear plant has been ordered since TMI, yet now nuclear power presents a solution to greenhouse gases, ozone depletion, and global warming.

Certainly a very emotional subject.
