Cabletron Systems Captures #6 Position in Information Week 500; Networking Leader Awarded Four Gold Citations; Ranked #2 Among Technology Companies

ROCHESTER, N.H., Oct 1, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cabletron Systems
(NYSE: CS) today announced that it has been named to the #6 position in
the InformationWeek 500, an annual ranking of the nation's largest and
most innovative IT users.

The ranking, which comprises companies with over $1 billion in annual
revenue, is based on demonstrated technological, procedural and
organizational innovation. Cabletron was awarded gold citations for its
early adoption and creative use of technology for application
development, E-business, customer relationship management, and business
process/enterprise resource planning.

Among technology companies, Cabletron ranked #2. "One of the most
compelling proof points for the strength and viability of Cabletron's
solutions has been our use of the technology in our own global
enterprise network," said Henry Fiallo, Cabletron's chief information
officer. "The InformationWeek 500 ranking not only affirms the ability
of our technology to add business value, but also confirms why some of
the world's largest companies have chosen Cabletron as their networking
partner."

Fiallo added, "I would like to thank Cabletron's executive team and IT
staff for their commitment and dedication to this effort."
