Doc, although I certainly sympathize, I was by no means "holding my breath" for the SEC to do something about Market Makers. The whole concept is imbedded in the way that exchange does business. It is quite assinine, IMO, but it isn't likely to go away anytime soon. I personally attempted to sell 15K shares into a 15K share bid, the MM took the first 5K and then decided that he didn't want the rest and simply "chose" not to buy. If the bid is there when I choose to fill it, it should be a sale. All bid/ask data should be online and anyone bids and offers should show. The current scenario sucks.
