Very true. I liken it to a poker game. The fact that you "would have won the pot" on the turn of the card that was actually coming, doesn't mean that calling the bet to take that card was the right decision. The proper decision whether to fold, or call or raise, depends on the probabilities of the situation, not on the hidden card that is actually coming next.
