In all agreement with LG..The progaganda and ballyhoo staged and played out by supporters should have a place on the thread of those discussed. Giving this inane soap opera a large forum as if the very life of SI depends on one members return or non return is boring plain and simple. SI has done well with and without A@P as to the famous short of MPPP by the A@P thread it has been 'advertised' just louder. Our thread went both long and short MPPP,GOTO, and PHCM without any of the 'ticker tape parade' as we did on RHAT, HLIT, NTOP, VTSS and a half dozen others. All of the shorting was done on SI without any 'advertising' or 'marketing' team which has no place on SI. As far as advertising I see no harm as long as it is kept in perspective and words like 'the one and only, and any inane godlike status removed from any post. My opinion is to do away with the most bookmarked people, because it leads self-proclaimed gurus to annoint themselves and that is tiring. That has not been just the A@P thread but a few other who 'pound the table' dance on 20 different threads etc... which hurts the ears. I think adverts should be kept on only one thread and not allowed to inundate other threads. I think that banners as part of profiles should be required to be removed and names that double as actual websites should be outlawed as well. As for myself and our thread, we roll right along as always without need of a team of 'supporters'.. Every thread and thread host is as good as their last pick, and none is infallible. The A@P thread is as good and no better than a few dozen others, and the 'truth' proclaimed to be the sole sojourn on this thread is also ridiculous. Every good thread has its own 'truths' to reveal and none is better than the other. I don't mind having either joe or A@P back but I think the 'policies' of SI should be more stringent and attacks for the sake of neutralizing competition in the 'guise of revealing the truth' should be given their deserved 'warnings'. No successful company should have to spend valuable time defending, accepting challenges and other activities that detract from the work at hand. In conclusion, I would welcome back TMex, who has always been a gentleman to our thread although we 'could have' had it out as #1 an #2. I know for a fact that TMex has been very successful without SI and despite the frequent attacks he received from the A@P thread. I also don't mind having AP back, as long as he treats others with respect and doesn't promote himself by stomping on others who work much harder at actual research and not at all at 'marketing ploys' to attack, demean, ridicule other thread, or companies. If A@P comes back and things quickly revert back to the vitriolic attacks as before, then I see it as a capitulation by SI to strong arm tactics and I would lose respect. On the other hand if things calm down on his return and he is treated equally by being made to follow the stringent criteria of posting, then it will be a victory for SI.. The real test will be in the few weeks following his return.
