Calvin,

Thanks for the numbers. Somehow it felt like quite a victory today, finishing in the green. We have had to shake off a lot of negatives this week: an annoying analyst report, Taiwan's earthquake, HP's cautionary directive, Ballmer's comments, etc. Let's hope that the next week is smooth sailing, especially Tuesday's Fed meeting.

Do you think that the mkt is counting on no increase, or is there still an up-side if there is no increase?

>> DELL 42 17/32 +23/32 despite a downgrade<<
Calvin
Feeling a bit euphoric about dodging a bullet on Friday are we?The market fires many salvos so we'll put that aside for now.About the downgrade ,it becomes a non-event when the following occurs.Salomon reiterates "buy" on Dell and $60 price target...CS First Boston reiterates "strong buy".A tie ,if you will.
On Thursday no buyers at 42.Friday after price dips below 40 buyers flock in and swoop up shares by the ton.Average volume 25 million ,Fridays numbers 43 million.Informed investors recognize bargain prices and act accordingly. They feel that while DELL is no longer the star it once was it will give them safe returns per year of 15-18%.In support of this statement regarding performance I offer the following:

YTD returns:
GTW 84.1%
AAPL 49.6%
IBM 29.1%
HWP 21.6@
DELL 14.5%
CPQ -87%
